Seems great, but just refuses to hold temperature.

Purchased this back in July and have a few cooks on this, but the unit just refused to hold temperature. I've contacted support multiple times and they just keep trying to shift the blame to me. Telling me that it was too hot outside, or I opened the lid too many times. Spent hours on the phone with...

A Smoker that doesn't smoke!

I've had my Ironwood 885 for almost 5 years so I believe this is a very fair review. From day one, I could not get the grill to smoke during the cook. I called Traeger support and they claimed the fan module was bad so they sent me a new one. That wasn't the problem so they sent me a new control module and that wasn't the problem. I replaced both but I still did not get any smoke after the start-up completed. I looked at online sources to understand what was wrong or if I was doing something wrong only to find very little knowledge on the problem. I tried probably 7-8 different brands of pellets and different flavors with pretty much the same results. I empty the hopper after every cook and I keep my pellets in an air tight container. I did find one pellet brand that actually produced a little smoke (not Traeger pellets), but it was very little smoke and not enough to flavor the meat. I've tried a smoking tube also, but they are a total pain to deal with and still don't produce enough smoke to really flavor the meat. This is my 2nd Traeger. My first one performed great and was so happy with it, I decided to upgrade it to the Ironwood 885. I used to tell all my friends how much I loved Traeger until I purchased the Ironwood. I have not recommended Traeger to anyone since this purchase. I will say the D2 controller is very good, easy to use, and the grill holds the temperatures well. If you are looking for an outdoor convection oven, the Ironwood will do the job, but I purchased it to smoke meat and it does a terrible job for what its primary purpose is for. After 3 years I had to replace the fire pot because it was falling apart. Not a big deal but I had my first Traeger for 7 years and never had to replace a single part on it. I don't know what Traeger did to change how their grills work but I am completely disappointed in my Traeger. I will say it does produce consistent results, just not the results I am looking for. It will also begin smoking from the hopper after I shut it down from a high temp cook. Traeger told me to lower the temperature for 5 minutes before going into shutdown mode. This has helped most times but occasionally, even after lowering the temperature, it will still start smoking from the hopper during the shutdown process. It appears the pellets inside the auger are burning and the smoke just billows out the hopper, ruining whatever pellets remained inside. I have since ordered a new pellet smoker from a different manufacturer and will relegate my Traeger to high temperature cooks only. However, I have noticed considerable rust on my Traeger and the front metal panel that attaches to the main chamber is already separating. I expect the grill to rust over time but considering how much these grills cost, it seems excessive and I live in Colorado's dry climate. I do keep my Traeger clean and polish it once a year but overall, I'm not pleased with the workmanship. I see that Traeger is now offering a 10 year warranty on new Ironwoods but my Traeger only came with a 3 year warranty. I've given up on trying to figure out what's wrong with it and moving on to what I believe is a better pellet smoker. Good bye Traeger!

Bottom Line No, I would not recommend to a friend

The ironwood wood pellet grill is the first and last grill you'll ever need. This grill from the moment I got it home changed my life forever. Not only was I able to make everyone on my street a little jealous when I brought home my Treager wood pellet grills l. But everyone wanted to come over to see if it was worth it. When buying a bbq pit it's more then a purchase for yourself it a statement to those around you that you care. You want those people to have a good meal cooked with the. ultimate precision there cutting edge tech intends to do just that. With he large grilling surface you getting everything cooked and an even cook all the way across the board. The new pop and lock system they have implemented make the grilling experiences that much awarding. Mix that with the all new modifier accessories and the wifire tech. And you have just become the backyard boss. I get my food all laid out and set the grill to my desired temp and it back to the game with the boys. This is a very new Traeger to me. I Have not had the chance to use it so this is a rating for the assembly of the ironwood. Overall very impressed on the packaging! The assembly and instructions were pretty straightforward and easy to follow. I did however notice a little issue when I plugged it in to do the initial burn. The unit didn't want to turn on at first but after a couple attempts at the button it finally did. So I hope the on/off button doesn't become an issue down the road. If so I have heard that the Traeger team is very helpful and ready to remedy any problems you may face. Overall excited to use it! Its a very nice unit especially coming from a little tex that I've had a many years.

Upgraded from the pro 575 and the new features are worth it. Easy ash and grease keg, more shelves, lights when opening the grill, app interface, and insulated lid are just a few of my favorite upgrades.

My first Traeger was one of the original Lil'Tex models...finally gave up the ghost after 13 years. That was a fantastic grill and made me a Traeger pellet grill fan ever since. When we were looking for a replacement, we finally settled on the new Ironwood. What an upgrade! Fantastic features like the D2 touchscreen, temp probes that can be monitored in the app (along with grill temperatures), very well laid out cooking area, even easier to maintain (love the ash/grease hopper), good work space with a light, and that smoke and that flavor! Traeger keeps getting it right, and they knocked this one out of the park!

We love our Träger. This is our second one now. An upgrade from our last one and loving it. It cooks so evenly and fast, leaving such a beautiful warm overall browning to our food.

I wish I had kept my Pro 22 instead

I bought this grill after using the Fremont (costco pro 22) for 2 years with incredible success. My only complaints about that grill were that it was a pain to clean and had no Wifi. After finding the Labor day deals on the Ironwood XL I decided to upgrade and could not have made a worse mistake. After assembling and burning in the grill it took me 3 weeks and over 24 hours of communicating with the traeger support team to get the grill connected to my wifi. After that the grill worked fine except it runs about 50-75 degrees hotter than it is set to. Tonight as I attempted to start the grill it failed to ignite twice claiming the pellets were empty even though its sensor reads 90% and the firepot being freshly emptied. Save your money and either buy the base models, or another brand entirely.

Extremely Disappointing

Just purchased the ironwood,it 3 hours of my time to put together, went and purchased all available accessories and took a vacation day to cook on it. Went to do the hour seasoning, it never got up to 500 degrees so the oil on the drip tray never burned off. Cleaned the oil off and went to fire it up to cook but it wouldn't preheat to 180 degrees, tried to set the temp to 350 but it won't go over 163 degrees. I spent a lot of time and money only to be really disappointed. The customer service is great but they want me to take apart the grill to fix it. I just want to get my money back. It was a big waste of my time, money and vacation time. The product is to sensitive with all the electronic devices in it can't see it last very long
